Orientation

Dear Girl-Who-I-Met-During-Advising-at-My-First-Day-of-Grad-School-Today:

You are spending $60,000 to get your Master in Teaching. You got into an incredibly prestigious school, and I am willing to believe that you are very smart and probably a good person who I have just misread completely. But REALLY? Were you REALLY trying to switch into a closed class because your current award-winning, PhD-candidate professor had a "foreign-sounding" name and you wanted to be with a professor who was "American"? Did you really tell me that you wanted to make sure you didn't have to deal with someone's "thick accent"? REALLY. And you want to teach in NYC public schools? And you live in this decade?

I am speechless.

Namaste, Ciao, Hasta Luego,

Irene
